The Narragansett Times recently profiled Dr. Jordan Hebert, a Washington County native who is now part of the surgical team at South County Health.
Over the past several months, Dr. Hebert has performed numerous acute care and elective laparoscopic surgeries for gallbladder disease, abdominal wall hernias, and other many conditions.
In January, he performed the first-ever eTEP laparoscopic hernia repair surgery at South County Hospital.
This advanced repair technique is a minimally invasive procedure featuring a decreased risk of post-operative complications and a shorter hospital stay than traditional laparoscopic hernia repairs.
“Not all laparoscopic hernia repairs are the same” he explains.
From the time he joined South County Health in September, Dr. Hebert suspected that he would care for people he knew while growing up in southern Rhode Island.
He just didn’t think it would happen so quickly.
“With my very first patient, there was a connection,” recalls Dr. Hebert. “Her daughter immediately recognized me.”
Over the past several months he has provided surgical care to several familiar faces, including former grade school classmates.
“It’s great to come back to the community that my wife and I have always considered to be home.”
