Following up on the recent unveiling by Senate leaders of the Rhode Island HEALTH Initiative, South County Health is calling on the community to join us in support of Senator V. Susan Sosnowski’s Bill for the Rhode Island Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner Dual Mandate - 2024-S 2722 and Representative Teresa A. Tanzi's and House leaders' Bill 2024-H 8072. This critical legislation will help:
- Achieve reimbursement rates of Massachusetts and Connecticut for Rhode Island’s doctors, advanced practice providers and hospitals – helping to ensure adequate access to primary care and specialty doctors and advanced practice providers.
- Improve the sustainability and quality of Rhode Island’s hospitals.
- Improve health equity outcomes throughout Rhode Island’s entire healthcare delivery system.
Did you know that Rhode Island competes in a region that includes Massachusetts and Connecticut, where hospitals and healthcare providers enjoy 20–30% higher rates of reimbursement? This is the root cause of several hospital bankruptcies and deteriorating infrastructure, but it has also created an inadequate healthcare workforce where Rhode Islanders regularly struggle to find primary care physicians or get timely appointments with specialists.
