It is important to understand that South County Health’s chargemaster data does not reflect the payment received for care. Charges may not reflect the amount a patient is expected to pay for services received from the hospital.
Hospital Charging Information
The healthcare insurance companies negotiate contracted rates with hospitals and the hospital is paid based on these negotiated rates regardless of the amount charged for each service.
The contracted rates can differ between insurance companies. Medicare reimbursement rates for each healthcare service are dictated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
The payment that the hospital receives includes reimbursement from the insurance company as well as the amount received from patients directly for any deductible, copayment, coinsurance, or services not covered by the insurance plan.
Uninsured patients may apply for financial assistance.
