On February 9, South County Health Patient Care Technician Amanda Roberts was recognized with a Petal Award. Amanda was nominated by her colleague, Haley Chappell, RN.
Amanda is a Patient Care Technician (PCT) that has been with South County Health for six years and currently floats on various South County Hospital’s units including Borda 1. Under the supervision of the nursing team, Patient Care Technicians provide daily care for patients, including taking vital signs, helping to move patients, and assisting patients with basic needs.
In Haley’s nominating letter, the appreciative colleague writes,
“This lovely PCT works nights, so I do not get to see her often, but she makes sure that when we are on Borda 1 unit that vitals are done for oncoming staff, always answers call lights up until she leaves, and is just kind in general. She has stayed late multiple times when there is no PCT scheduled to do blood sugars or when the next shift is late, and she makes sure the patients are taken care of. She is excellent at her job and deserves this recognition.”
Anitra Galmore, Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, presented the award, saying “As caregivers we say we’re just doing our job, but anticipating the needs of colleagues and patients, especially the little things, that makes all the difference.”
When asked if she has a favorite unit to work on, Amanda said, “I love them all. I just like to float.” Along with her award, Amanda received a bouquet of daisies and a beautiful tray of breakfast pastries for the entire department to enjoy.
The Petal Award is a program created by South County Health’s Nursing Shared Governance group to recognize outstanding nursing support staff. Nurses wouldn’t be able to perform their jobs without the help of dedicated and talented support staff. The Petal Award shows this appreciation by creating a way for patients and colleagues to recognize these essential members of the care team. The inaugural Petal award was presented to Laura Gardiner in May of 2023.
Petal Award honorees personify South County Health’s commitment to patient experience. These individuals consistently demonstrate excellence through their extraordinary, compassionate care while promoting a restful and healing environment.
They are recognized as outstanding role models in our patient care community.
