On April 11, 2023, Becca Crofts, RN, was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. As part of the DAISY tradition, Becca received a bouquet of daisies, A Healer’s Touch statuette, and a platter of cinnamon buns to share with her unit.
Working as a nurse with South County Health was an aspiration of Becca’s that first formed while she was an 18-year-old student here in the hospital’s CNA training program.
“I knew I wanted to be a nurse at South County. It was a goal of mine.”
After a number of years working in home health, earning her associates degree, and beginning her bachelor’s, Becca has now been a nurse at South County Health for two years. And as of April 11, she’s a DAISY, too.
DAISY nurses are described as consistently calm, focused, communicative, and comforting. They provide excellent nursing care and advocate not only for the physical needs, but also for the emotional and psychological needs of their patients. DAISY nurses know that the little things can make a big difference. These are just a few of the nominating guidelines for the DAISY award, and Becca Crofts embodies these qualities, and more, every day in her work at South County Health.
Becca was nominated by a patient’s adult child. In her nomination, Becca’s kindness, her gentle caring manner, and the way she gave her full attention to the patient are mentioned.
During the patient’s stay, Becca had a student intern shadowing her. The nominating letter reads “I felt that the intern was quite fortunate to be shadowing someone like Becca, because she epitomizes the qualities of a nurse who you would want to be caring for your loved one.”
The letter goes on to read “I am glad that we got to meet Becca and that my mom was the beneficiary of her exceptional care.”
About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided and one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day.
Cinnamon rolls were a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
To nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award, patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, or colleagues may complete and submit the form on our website.
