Surgical Precision: The Journey of a Technician
“I started at South County Health while in school for surgical technology. My first position was in Patient Accounts. Next, I moved to Central Processing. Once I graduated from New England Tech with an associate degree in surgical technology as a Certified Surgical Technologist, I moved into my current role as a Surgical Technologist in the operating room.”
People and Pathways
“At South County Health, I found the process transitioning into different roles very easy. While in my clinical time, I was offered a position in Central Sterile by the Director of Surgical Services. As I got near finishing school, I was again approached and offered my current position in the OR. Everyone was very accommodating, and my changing of roles was seamless.
About mentors, Cara had this to say: “I have learned a little bit of something from all my coworkers in the OR, and from all of the physicians. My biggest supporter and biggest cheerleader is my husband.”
Instruments of Healing
“The in-services offered through our vendors, and our professional development team have been very valuable in keeping me current and helping me develop my skills. I have plans to eventually go back to school for nursing. I have not formally committed to this yet, but it’s my goal is once my youngest is in school.”
The Heartbeat of Surgery
“Community is why I love South County Health. It’s the people. And when I’m not here at work, I’m with my family, hopefully outdoors. I’m married, with two boys, a dog and a cat. I love to read and spend time at the beach.”
