South County Dermatology, in partnership with South County Health, is hosting a FREE Skin Cancer Screening on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., at the Medical & Wellness Center in East Greenwich. To reserve your 10-minute appointment, please call (401) 471-3376, then press #.
Skin cancer can affect people of all skin tones and types; therefore, all Rhode Islanders over the age of 18 should consider having an annual screening. “Our beautiful weather and sunny beaches create natural opportunities to enjoy the sun. However, sun protective clothing, hats, sunscreen, and other safety measures are crucial to avoiding melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma,” says Robert K. Dyer, MD. He also notes that skin cancer screening exams are the best way to catch melanoma and other skin cancers early, when they’re more amenable to treatment. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
You may be at higher risk for skin cancer:
• Red or blond hair, fair skin, freckles and blue or light-colored eyes
• More than 50 moles
• History of frequent or intense sun exposure
• One or more blistering sunburns
• Family history of melanoma
• Personal history of basal cell and/or squamous cell skin cancers
This FREE clinic will be hosted by the following dermatology providers at South County Dermatology:

Clinicians will conduct a head-to-toe examination to identify any skin abnormalities or areas of concern. Please wear loose-fitting clothing that can easily be removed or adjusted during the screening. If a suspicious lesion is found, South County Dermatology will schedule a follow up visit for care.
