At South County Health’s 2021 Annual Meeting held on Monday, April 26, Joseph F. Matthews was named chairman of South County Health’s Board of Trustees, succeeding the position formerly held by outgoing chairman Dennis Lynch.
Joseph is a Wakefield resident and third generation of family ownership of Maxson Automatic Machinery Company based in Westerly, RI. He previously served as a member of the South County Health Board of Trustees from 2006 - 2015 and South County Home Health’s Board of Directors from 2003 – 2008.
The newly-elected chairman has strong ties with South County Health and the business community, and brings quality leadership from a variety of experiences.
Joseph joined Maxson Automated Machine Company in 1983 and was assigned the responsibility of sales and marketing. In 1984, he was elected to the Board of Directors and named Company Secretary. In 1992 Joseph became the Company’s Vice President, succeeding Merton Matthews as President in 2000.
In addition to his volunteer service with South County Health, Joseph sits on the Boards of Directors for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America, Tides Family Services, and previously was a trustee of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wakefield.
He will serve a three-year term as chairman.
