On Monday, May 8, the first day of South County Health’s 2023 Employee and Nurses Week, Sara Aubois, RN was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. As part of the DAISY tradition, Sara received a bouquet of daisies, A Healer’s Touch statuette, and a platter of cinnamon buns to share with her unit.
When asked what she loves about being a nurse, without hesitation Sarah responded “making a difference.” Originally from Rhode Island, Sara studied nursing in the Berkshires. She has worked in the Emergency Department at South County Health for the last three years.
Anitra Galmore, Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Operations Officer, presented the award, praising not only Sara, but the entire team “behind the employee.” Sara reiterated this sentiment, recognizing the collaboration that goes into providing extraordinary care, “It’s never one nurse, it’s everyone.”
Sara was nominated by the mother of a patient. She was moved to reach out because Sara was “so kind, so collected, and so empathic. She knew just what to say and what to do.” The nominating letter goes on to say that “nurses sometimes need to hear from their patients so that they know how much they really are appreciated.”
South County Health is excited to celebrate Sara, and the positive impact of her work as a nurse, with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided and one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day.
Cinnamon rolls were a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
To nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award, patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, or colleagues may complete and submit the form on our website.
