Contact Us >After three years in planning and construction, the South County Health Medical & Wellness Center in Westerly welcomed its first patients on Monday, May 23, 2016, starting a new era of community healthcare services.
The 32,000 square foot Center, located at 268 Post Rd. (Rt. 1) in Westerly, is home to more than a dozen medical services, including primary care physicians, OB/GYNs, dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists, podiatrists, a general surgeon, diabetes management, urgent/walk-in care, lab, x-ray, ultrasound, and 3-D mammography among the array of services available.
The Express Care is open seven days a week, staffed by board certified providers who deliver care to those whose illness or injury needs immediate attention.
While offering convenient healthcare access to local residents is the Center’s primary purpose, those living in and around Washington County are feeling the economic benefit it creates. The Center employs more than 60 workers, 40 of those newly hired in such fields as medical assistants, receptionists, registered nurses, phlebotomists, x-ray technicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, doctors, physician assistants, and house-keepers.
In addition to the individual benefits brought by the opening of the South County Health Medical & Wellness Center in Westerly, the local economy will undoubtedly feel a positive impact from consumers who spend money at gas stations, restaurants, dry cleaners, food markets, hardware stores, pharmacies, florists, and coffee shops while here to maintain their own good health. South County Health uses local vendors when possible, boosting commercial business for such industries as landscape maintenance, uniform embroidery, promotional items (tote bags, thermometers, first-aid kits, etc.), snow removal, window washing, and a growing list of services.
Local civic and community-based groups are invited to use designated areas of the South County Health Medical & Wellness Center as meeting space for their organizations, when available. This space is offered free-of-charge.
Visitors are welcome to stop by the Center located at 268 Post Rd. (Rt. 1) in Westerly, near Walmart and Dunns Corners and receive a free mini-first aid kit while supplies last. While there, be sure to obtain a copy of the South County Health Medical Services & Physician Directory, and discover the expanse and quality of care that is available right in the community.
To mark the beginning of this new era in community healthcare, over 200 people celebrated the ribbon-cutting on May 18, followed by a reception to recognize the Westerly community, show appreciation for the many people involved in bringing the Center to life, and to introduce residents, business and civic leaders to their new, healthy neighbors.
