South County Health proudly congratulates a talented group of future nurses who recently completed our Student Nurse Internship Program. Over the course of 12 weeks, these dedicated nursing students partnered with experienced RN preceptors, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in patient care at South County Hospital. This immersive program not only provided students with practical clinical experience but also included 24 hours of classroom instruction where they honed essential skills such as Peripheral IV placement, urinary catheterization, wound care, nasogastric tube insertion, and behavioral health management.
Preparing for the Future
This comprehensive internship is designed to prepare nursing students for the critical transition from student to professional nurse. Upon graduation, these students will be well-equipped to step into their new roles as Registered Nurses (RNs) and continue their journey through the Nurse Residency Program at South County Health, where they will receive additional support and guidance during their first year of practice.
Tory Groves, RN a Nursing Leader at South County Health, emphasizes the significance of nurturing new nurses and the role mentorship plays in their success. "New nurses are the future of our profession. Their energy, fresh perspectives, and dedication to patient care are invaluable. At South County Health, we believe in the power of mentorship to help these new nurses grow and thrive. Our experienced RNs are passionate about sharing their knowledge and supporting the next generation of nursing professionals. This program is a testament to our commitment to their development."
