Dr. Chihlas graduated cum laude from Union College in N.Y. He earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He completed a general surgery internship and an orthopedic surgery residency with specialty training in foot and ankle surgery and served as an Orthopedic Chief Resident at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Chihlas is an expert in operative and non-operative care of all orthopedic conditions, injuries, and illness, including orthopedic fragility and osteoporosis, with added specialty in sports medicine of the foot and ankle. He is an adjunct clinical assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine, and an official team physician for the Providence College Friars. Practicing orthopedics in Rhode Island since 1997, Dr. Chihlas also serves as an NBC Sports Boston TV physician consultant for sports injuries to the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics.

Dr. Chihlas’s care is focused on being available for patients when they are in need, because all orthopedic issues are urgent to patients striving to return to their lives and activities. Dr. Chihlas prioritizes helping his patients realistically navigate their conditions and feel better as promptly as possible.

Outside of his work in orthopedics, Dr. Chihlas’s main interest is his family’s health and activities, including coaching and volunteering for his son’s sports teams and bands. He also enjoys traveling and hiking in many National Parks, including Grand Canyon, Arches, Zion, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Denali.
