“Over the past four years, I’ve developed friendships with my colleagues that make this organization feel like home.”

From Intern to HR Leader in the Making

For Alyssa Gallup, South County Health is more than just a workplace—it’s where she discovered her passion, honed her skills, and found a second family. Beginning her journey as a Human Resources intern in 2016, Alyssa’s career trajectory reflects SCH’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering professional growth.

“I’ve always felt a sense of home working at this organization,” Alyssa shares. “The welcoming culture is something you experience the moment you walk through the door, and that still stands true today.”

Mentorship That Inspires Growth

When Alyssa returned to SCH in 2020 as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, she quickly realized that she was in an environment that prioritized both excellence and care. Now a Human Resources Business Partner, she credits much of her growth to her leaders, especially her current mentor, Tish Devaney.

“Tish has played such a crucial role in my professional development. Her care and appreciation for her team are undeniable, and I am so grateful for her support and belief in me,” Alyssa says. “We are all truly lucky to have her as a leader.”

At SCH, mentorship is more than a professional courtesy; it’s an investment in people. Leaders like Tish embody SCH’s values by fostering talent and creating pathways for success, ensuring every staff member feels valued and supported.

A Culture of Connection and Care

Alyssa is quick to highlight the SCH culture and the relationships she has built with her colleagues.

“Healthcare is an essential service and there are many challenges in the field today, but knowing I have the support and guidance of my leaders and coworkers is more than I could ask for,” she says. “Over the past four years, I’ve developed friendships with my colleagues that make this organization feel like home.”

SCH’s community-driven ethos extends beyond patient care, creating a workplace where collaboration thrives, and employees feel connected to a shared purpose.

Passion for People: A Future in Leadership

Alyssa’s enthusiasm for Human Resources is rooted in her love for helping others. Whether she’s recruiting top talent or supporting current staff in their professional growth, she finds deep fulfillment in her role.

“Helping others has always been the most rewarding part of my job,” Alyssa says. “One of my favorite moments is telling someone they’ve been hired and hearing that it made their day. It’s a reminder of why I love what I do.”

Looking ahead, Alyssa aspires to transition into a leadership role.

Beyond the Office: A Life of Balance

Alyssa’s story is also one of balance and personal growth. After earning her Bachelor’s in Human Development from the University of Rhode Island, she gained a master’s certificate in Human Resources. She even spent a transformative semester abroad in Italy, a big step for someone who describes herself as a “homebody.”

Outside of work, Alyssa treasures time with her husband, Zachary, and their four-year-old Golden Retriever, Bowie. “It’s simple, but going on a date with my husband and coming home to our fur baby is my favorite thing to do,” she shares.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals

When asked what advice she would give to others, Alyssa’s response reflects her grounded and optimistic outlook:
“Always stay true to yourself and what you believe in. Most importantly, do what makes you happy—life is too short!”

Why South County Health Stands Out

Alyssa’s journey is a testament to South County Health’s dedication to creating a supportive, empowering environment for its staff. As she puts it:

“South County Health is a small, community organization that truly cares about the people it serves and the team that makes it all possible. From day one, you feel the welcoming culture and genuine commitment to quality and excellence.”
