The South County Health Nursing Residency Program (NRP) is a full-year program to support all newly graduated RNs at SCH during their first year of practice, as they transition from student to professional nurse. The group meets monthly in 4-hour sessions that include time to debrief on their experiences, learn or enhance new skills, discuss professionalism topics that are current in their practice, and meet interdisciplinary experts from across the organization.

A Year of Growth, Learning, and Professional Development

The South County Health Nursing Residency Program (NRP) is an integral part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of nursing professionals. Designed to ease the transition from student to professional nurse, this year-long program equips newly graduated registered nurses (RNs) with the tools, skills, and confidence they need to thrive in their first year of practice. In 2024, 15 nurses completed the Nursing Residency Program at South County Health.

A Comprehensive Program for New RNs

Throughout the year, participants in the NRP engage in monthly, four-hour sessions that combine education, collaboration, and mentorship. These sessions include:

  • Debriefing Experiences: A safe space to reflect on clinical experiences and share insights.
  • Skill Building: Opportunities to learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills critical to patient care.
  • Professionalism Topics: Engaging discussions on current issues and best practices in nursing professionalism.
  • Expert Connections: Meetings with interdisciplinary experts from across South County Health to broaden understanding and foster collaboration.

This comprehensive approach ensures that our newest nurses are supported every step of the way, building a strong foundation for their careers.
