COREY COOK, RN, INTENSIVE CARE UNIT, HONORED WITH A DAISY AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINARY NURSES

On August 25, Corey Cook, RN, was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. As part of the DAISY tradition, Corey received a bouquet of daisies, A Healer’s Touch statuette, and a platter of cinnamon buns to share with her unit.

Anitra Galmore, Vice President, Chief Operations Officer/Chief Nursing Officer, presented the award and spoke about Corey’s positivity, her dedication to patients, and her commitment to her team adding that, “In fact, this is Corey’s second DAISY award!” Corey was also honored in April of 2015.

Corey, who has worked as an RN at South County Health since 2014, was nominated by the daughter of a patient in her care. Her nominator wrote,

“My dad has been at SCH for 5 days at this point. He is on a ventilator and is having unexplained seizures…Corey walked into the room and immediately spoke to me saying ‘Today is just going to be a good day, because I want it to be.’ I laughed; and of course, said, ‘I can only hope.’

“Corey explained the plan and started the process of prepping my dad for transport. She clearly knows what she is doing on the patient front and led each person that walked into the room with ease – you can tell Corey makes the team actually feel like a team. Her gentle demeanor with handling my dad was very appreciated, and her lighthearted attitude was more than appreciated.

“Honestly to hear her confidence, see the teams’ smiles, and still keep everyone focused, you can see why Corey is the team leader.”

South County Health is delighted to honor Corey with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided and one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day.

Cinnamon rolls were a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.

To nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award, patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, or colleagues may complete and submit the form on our website.
