South County Health's Petal Award was developed by SCH Nursing Shared Governance Committee to recognize excellence among staff who assist nurses in providing patient care

On Friday, May 12, the closing day of South County Health’s Employee and Nurses Week, Patient Care Technician Laura Gardiner was recognized with South County Health’s inaugural Petal Award.

Anitra Galmore, CNO/COO, presented Laura with her award, along with a bouquet of flowers, and a beautiful tray of frosted sugar cookies for the entire department to enjoy.

Laura is a Patient Care Technician in South County Hospital’s Women and Newborn Care Unit and Orthopedics. She was nominated by Julia Ricard, Physical Therapist, who describes Laura as kind and approachable and says that, when it comes to completing all aspects of her job with purpose, “Laura is a star!”

Laura has worked at South County Health since 2009 and has worked in nursing support for 40 years. She says, “I love my job. I love South County Hospital. I love the doctors and nurses here. It’s why I applied here fifteen years ago.”

The Petal Award is a program created by South County Health’s Nursing Shared Governance group to recognize nursing support staff who go above and beyond their line of duty. Nurses wouldn’t be able to perform their jobs without the help of dedicated and talented support staff.

The Petal Award shows this appreciation by creating a way for patients and colleagues to recognize these essential members of the care team.

Petal Award honorees personify South County Health’s commitment to patient experience. These individuals consistently demonstrate excellence through their extraordinary, compassionate care while promoting a restful and healing environment.
They are recognized as outstanding role models in our patient care community.
