His journey began with a strong foundation in emergency care as an EMT, where he developed skills that seamlessly transitioned into his role as a Registered Nurse (RN). Brendan’s passion for helping others and his calm under pressure make him a perfect fit for the unique challenges and rewards of overnight care in the Intensive Care Unit.

What Makes the 3rd Shift Special?

“The 3rd shift is like no other,” Brendan explains. “You’re part of a smaller, tight-knit team where every member plays a crucial role.” Brendan loves the opportunity to focus on patient care with fewer distractions compared to daytime hours.

A Team That Feels Like Family

One of Brendan’s favorite aspects of the 3rd shift is the camaraderie among coworkers. “We support each other,” he shares. “We rely on each other, and your team becomes like family.” That strong bond makes even the most challenging nights manageable.

The Rewards of the Role

Work-Life Balance

For Brendan, the 3rd shift offers valuable work-life balance. “I have two boys, by working 3rd shift, I am able to be with them mornings, and my wife and I manage childcare more easily” he says.

Autonomy and Critical Thinking

“There’s a lot of independence on 3rd shift,” Brendan explains. “You have to think critically.” This autonomy keeps him engaged and constantly learning.

Competitive Pay and Much More

Another benefit Brendan appreciates is the pay. “The compensation for 3rd shift makes it even more rewarding,” he notes. “It’s a role that recognizes the unique demands and responsibilities of overnight care. But it’s also about being able to be present for my two boys, ages 7 and 4. My wife is able to work full time, and I’ve been able to be fully engaged as a father while also working full time.”
