If you are looking for a way to give back to your community while using your unique talents and making new friends, consider volunteering at South County Hospital.

Volunteering at South County Health

Our volunteers are an important part of all that we do. All ages—from teens to retirees—participate. At South County Health, volunteers provide essential social support to our patients, their families, and other visitors. Whether you’re interested in greeting and directing visitors, handing out items from our Comfort Cart, or assisting with other tasks, South County Health can match you with the right opportunity. By volunteering you receive the personal satisfaction of helping others, making new friends, learning new skills, and exploring careers.

Our volunteers are a diverse group of dedicated, talented individuals who bring enthusiasm and expertise to the their work. They create a warm and welcoming environment at South County Health.

Many of our volunteers enjoy the opportunity to serve others in a healthcare environment. Our volunteers come from all walks of life -- senior volunteers who are retired to teenagers who are given a unique learning opportunity through our student partnership programs. The service our volunteers provide is important, and the friendships they make are long-lasting. Many volunteers choose to stay with us for years.

What Can I Expect?

Volunteers who are placed in patient care areas make rounds and assist patients who might need special attention. They perform meaningful tasks, engage in conversation, and help make the patient's stay more comfortable. They may also help with clerical work on the nursing units. There are a number of departments in which our volunteers lend a hand.

As a volunteer you can feel good about making a difference. Each year South County Health volunteers are recognized at special events, including an awards ceremony.

Volunteer Expectations

We ask our volunteers to contribute a minimum of 100 hours of service, although we are flexible with those who relocate during the winter months and college students. Our goal is to place you in an area or department at South County Health that aligns with your interests and skills.

All volunteers complete an online orientation and receive training with a volunteer mentor in the department in which they are placed. In addition, each volunteer receives a uniform and identification badge to wear while volunteering. As a volunteer, you receive one complimentary meal during your volunteer shift.
